The housing industry is wondering who is America’s next homebuyer? One group is people renting single-family properties, according to new Freddie Mac research. When asked about their housing plans for the next three years, more single-family renters are likely to say they expect to buy than multifamily renters (53 percent vs 36 percent respectively).
Overall, renters who are most satisfied with their rental experience are twice as likely to continue to rent than those who are most dissatisfied. Sixty-eight percent of apartment renters report being satisfied compared to 60 percent of single-family renters.
In the U.S. about 15 million households rent a single-family house and 25 million rent an apartment.
Additional details about the research are on the Freddie Mac website.
